A geopolitical breakdown of the competing interests in one of the most dangerous places on earth, the South China Sea. The region is critical to the future of Chinese trade, energy independence and global prestige. It's also vital to many of China's smaller neighbors, who, being unable to compete, have relied on the projection of US power into the region. A dangerous task US policymakers are all too eager to acquiesce to.
